Advanced Search engine optimization techniques are
a combination of Black hat vs. White hat SEO. Black hat SEO can
potentially get you band from search engines but will give you a
phenominal ranking in the search engines with little effort while
white hat seo is more for webmaster's concerned with the longevity
of their sites.
Here are some advanced Search engine tips
First there are some basic fundamentals that we should all know.
The Google Sandbox: Google's
sandbox is a relatively new filter that appeared to be put in place
back in March of 2004. This happened after the widely publicized
updates of Austin and Florida, and the implementation of what is
known as the Austin update. The sandbox filter seems to affect nearly
all new websites placing them on an initial "probation"
status. The effect of this is that new websites may get into Google's
SERP's (search engine results pages) relatively quickly and may
even perform well for a couple of weeks. When the filter is applied
to the new website it is referred to as being put in the "sandbox".
The new website will still show in the result pages, but it will
not rank well regardless of how much original, well optimized content
and regardless of how many quality inbound links the site may have.
The filter restrains new websites from having immediate success
in the search engine result pages, in some cases can take a year.
Google backlinks: Google
Loves one way links and site wide links.
Initiating Link Campaigns:
Link
campaigns essential steps are to identify potential
link partners, request the links, and specify the link text.
Planning a reciprocal link campaign requires an understanding of
your industry and how your products or services fit within your
industry. A site about guitar might want to start a reciprocal link
campaign. So, what types of web sites would they want to trade links
with? Perhaps they would like to link to guitar players, guitar
clubs, sheet music stores and musical instrument sites.
Once you have the topics you want to cover on a list, you then
need to develop an entry page for your resources or link partners.
This page would be a directory of the targeted resource topics.
The links would go to separate pages and those pages would have
the links to your reciprocal link partners.
See link campaing.
The major Search Engines and how to optimize
for them.
How to Search Engine Optimize for Yahoo!:
The Yahoo algorithm is a remenicent of the Google algorithm in some
ways. This could be because of late yahoo is now doing their search
engine results in house.
| SEO labs sponsored by yahoo have put out some
interesting results. Keyword density is given more wieght with
Yahoo! They found that if your site has around 10% instead of
the standard 3-6% of keywords to the total text on the page
then the study suggest's that most of the higher ranking pages
generally had a higher number of keywords or keyword density
in the body and title of the page. |
 |
Anchor text is looked on less heavily with yahoo then it is by
google! Still, You will still need to incorporate strong keyword
density into your title and body tags.
Keywords in directories and file names: In the SEO labs they studied
the relationship between keywords in directory names and file names.
As we know keywords play an impressive role in Yahoos! algorithm!
Naming your directories and file names as such:
www.my-domain.com/keyword/file-name-with-keywords.html
will have a slight impact on your overall ranking with the YAHOO!
How to optimize for Google:
First of all we need to know how important Google is right now.
Google provides primary search engine results to Alexa, paid results
to Ask Jeeves, Teoma & Hot Bot as well as primary & paid
results to AOL, Netscape & Go.com. Google also receives directory
results from DMOZ. As of 2/18/04 Google updated it's index to 4.23
billion web pages. So optimizing for google is on the top of every
WEBmasters mind! There are a lot of points that google looks at
that you might not be aware of. We will attempt to scrape the surface!
Remember its all about the keywords!
- Your domain name has a small role in your search
engine optimization. Remember to choose a name that has something
to do with your sites content.
- Keywords in the Title Tag (4-13 words)
- Keywords in ALT Tags (search engines do not read
images but if you add an alt tag then now a search engine can
read the image because you have placed text behind it)
- Keywords in the body (remember keyword rich original
content) for google you want around 3-6%
- Keywords in Links (links to your web page using
your keywords)
- Update pages and add new content often (use BLOGS
and RSS feeds like CarP)
Remember googles
sandbox and their age delay filter. Use this time wisely and
start interlinking (have keyword links that go to other pages
within your
site) as much as possible.
Link popularity
is still a huge part of google so make sure you get as many
links back to your site that are PageRank 4 and above!
Use tools like
IBP
and ARELIS
to gain high rankings on google as well.
Google
realesed a statement on what they are mainly specifically
looking for which was released by matt cutts. Here
are the 4 major points outlined by matt.

Optimizing for MSN: You
might have seen the commercials. O yes that is right. MSN has a
new search engine algorithm and we are ready to unleash what they
are looking for. SEOChat moderator Dazzlindonna had this logical
approach to optimizing for MSN, "No, its not about Meta tags
(I have some sites that have no Meta tags and rank well in it).
No, it's not just about content. No, it's not just about links.
Like all major search engines, its about a number of factors, with
varying weight amongst those factors."
 |
Your pages content, the number and quality
of sites that link to your pages, and the relevance of your
site's content to keywords is very important. This method of
ranking is not unique to MSN but is commonly accepted among
most reputable search engines. MSN gives more weight to on-page
content, much like Yahoo. This differs from the method that
Google favors, which seems to give credence based on the amount
of relevant links that point to a site. |
For MSN, make sure you are loading your home page with keywords.
Go the 10% instead of the normal 3-6% and MSN is known for picking
up every and any kind of reciprical link you throw at it so go crazy.
